Home Remedies for Yeast Infection

A yeast infection can be a very unpleasant condition to experience, but they are fairly common. This issue is caused when certain types of fungus grow beyond their normal range and it can result in a variety of symptoms. Many people will buy prescription or over the counter medications to address the infection, but you can use a range of home remedies that will be effective, without side effects.

Yogurt

The human body is full of different forms of friendly bacteria and these microbes are often responsible for helping to maintain the body’s PH balance. Yogurt contains many of the forms of bacteria that can be beneficial to the body, so it can be used to prevent or treat a yeast infection. As a preventative measure, you could eat a daily cup of yogurt to help maintain the proper balance. Additionally, you could use yogurt to treat a yeast infection by making sure to eat it while the condition is present.

Boric Acid Suppository

Boric Acid is a natural antifungal and antiseptic and it can work well to treat most of the simple yeast infections. It has been shown to counteract the growth of many of the common strains of yeast that cause these infections, so it can be effective even when some other treatment methods are not. Since the powder can be an irritant, you do not want to apply it directly, but rather use the suppositories to treat the condition.

Tea Tree Oil

The oil derived from the tea tree leaf, also known as melaleuca, has been shown to work well for a variety of medicinal purposes and one of these is as an antifungal. Inserting a tampon that has been treated with this essential oil may provide good results for some women. However, this method should be applied with caution until you know how your body will react to the oil. For some people, it may cause further irritation, so it is important to monitor the effects of the oil as you use it to treat the infection.

Garlic

Having natural properties as an antifungal and antibacterial agent, garlic can also provide effective relief for a yeast infection. You could introduce more garlic into your diet, or you could apply the treatment directly to the vagina. Many women have reported positive results from placing a small garlic clove in the vagina before they go to bed and then removing it when they awake. This treatment will have the best chance of success if the infection is caught early.

Apple Cider Vinegar

To get relief from the irritation and fight the infection, you could treat the infection with an apple cider vinegar douche. Take about a quart of water and mix in three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and use as regular with douche apparatus.

Natural remedies can often be the best way to treat a yeast infection and this is especially true when the condition is caught in the early stages. Treatment and prevention can often be much more simple and less of a hassle when you know the right home remedies to employ.
